Title: Speedo
Post by eliteomegaman on 24. Mar 2011 at 11:50
Good morning all what a glorious day!  :) :)

A friend of mine has a problem which i thought i'd share with you, the experts!
He has a 2000 new shape 2.5 omega & the speedo has started to play up. This has only just started & it's intermittent. It suddenly stops & the traction control & abs light comes on BUT the car still drives fine, then the speedo comes on again after a few miles  :-/

Anyone got any ideas & solutions  :-?

I had mine done through BBA-Reman, very pleased .. MDTM knows of another place as well.

IIRC options are :

1. New from VX £600 ish plus a tech2 session to set up

2. Second hand .. needs to be from same engine type/size/model year or will also need a tech2 to setup

3. Repair.... around £130 ish with a warranty, no tech2 needed as it is "your" ECU

Sent mine monday , got it back friday .. this was on the old car about 3 years back. :)

i know that this is a comon fault
what is the "repair" that they do to the ecu ?
is it " dry joints " on the circuit board or do they replace componants ?

Its a "specialist" resolder job I believe ... some while back there was a thread with a picture of the internals that showed the fault. Microscopic wires and not a lot of room + the joints are packed in something if memory serves.... certainly not a job for most home soldering irons !!!

I'll see if I can find the thread

EDIT :

Not the thread I thought of .. but this might suffice .. :)

BTW .. if MDTM says he can't do it (post #10) ... then it needs a miracle worker !!!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I might enquire if its possible to do this where I work. I wouldnt be surprised if it is. If so, a possible cheaper alternative for OOFers ??
Will report back when I find out.
