Title: engine dilemma Post by gerry c on 24. Mar 2011 at 20:03
the other night my timing belt decided to snap, well you all know what happens next. been ringing around looking for a z22xe no with luck at all. are there other engines that would be suitable?? or would rebuilding be my best option.
ive seen a full car for £350 with a 2.0 + full leather that the seller says has an oil leak between the box and engine, does this sound like a major problem?? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( |

leak between engne and box could be rear main crankshaft seal, easy fix with the box off, or clutch slave cylinder, again easy but expensive fix with the box off.
Or,,, could even be the cam cover gasket leaking at the rear of the engine and running down the bell housing |

Re build your motor not too difficult and you get the satisfaction of knowing it has been done properly. :y

thats what ive been thinking too,
1. new valves / valve guides 2. head gasket 3. water pump 4. timing belt would that be it? that is if the pistons havent been hit |

Might be easier to get another head rather than faffing around with valves/guides etc. ;)

don't worry too much about that, very rare for the pistons to be damaged other than a valve print or two |

well after all that got sorted, took it for MOT yesterdeay and.... FAIL, wasnt too displeased about it
1. side lamp - inoperative - nearside front 2. ABS warning light/operation defective 3. brake pipes not sufficently clean - nearside, rear, replace if pitted. so i drove straight to the mechanic and on the way my damm exhaust emmisions light thing came on while driving :-[ he's gonna hook it up check codes on monday. it get's better, he took it a spin to test the ABS guess what no ABS the ABS dash light doesnt light up either - probably removed >:( any ideas what previous owner was hiding?? are there any checks i can do before it goes to the mechanic?? also and i know this is a long shot. i noticed the loom that run along the side of the engine has a nipped wire how would i find out what the wire belongs too??? anyway if its really bad news there will be a 2003 2.2 for sale ;) |
