The surface might have been a bit greasy too. I saw my old boss do exactly the same thing just after buying a YZF 1000, outside the factory where we worked. There was a fine coating of cement dust on the road - he gave it a handful and it went round in a circle and spat him off. I laughed so hard I was nearly sick. The bloke was a total ar5ehole. ::) ;D ;D

Still we've all done it, I'm sure. That irresistible little blip of the throttle when deep down you know it's not wise. ::) Some get away with only a change of underpants, others are not so lucky. ;)
