Title: Ride out suggestions
Post by tunnie on 06. Apr 2011 at 19:54
with the weather looking glorious tomorrow and Friday, I want to take the GS on a run somewhere. Got loads of things to try out such as some custom ear phones, various sat navs for the iPhone while on the go, tarp for camping and such.

I was thinking of going to Cromer across through Norfolk, but a certain banned admin said not to bother as there is sod all there  :-/

Thinking maybe back to North Wales, there is a fantastic campsite there which allows open fires, the roads there are brilliant going through Stratford upon Avon, over to Long Mynd and into Wales in the Trawsfynydd area, as I know thats stunning:

I'm going to camp as I think the weather is nice enough, beer jacket should keep me warm plus the fire....

But also thinking of other places, maybe Yorkshire Dales?  :-/

Going from Brackley, Northants not London. Suggestions welcome  :y

Now, that really appeals to me and it's at a time like this I regret not having a bike licence. :(

That was taken with my point and shoot, I do fancy a nice 10-20 wide angle for my SLR, but they are about £300-400 :(

Slightly off topic Tunnie, but may I suggest for your next biking holiday you consider Lake Como near Milan. I was there recently and it is a stunning place, which has bikes riding around the adjacent roads constantly. The Moto Guzzi factory is nearby, Monza race track is nearby, and the Ducati and Ferrari factories arent far away either. But more importantly, the area is absolutely beautiful. :y

Only one way to get there, too. Stelvio. :y

Watch the gravel, though. Bike took my front bumper out by slipping on that when I went. :'(

Black Mountain is a great pass on a bike, but you've got pots sticking out the side so it won't lean over enough for the hairpins possibly? ;D

Yep, did the run up from Kyle Of Lockalsh, through Ullapool and round the coast, finally chickening out and heading inland at Tongue last year in the Westfield. What a lovely drive. :y Would be better with the high vantage point on a bike too, as I found there were lots of blind bends.

Although flat, Suffolk and Norfolk do have some pretty areas, though. Constable country is pretty, and has some very nice roads that I used to blat along in my Morris Ital.  :-[

Used to go on my holidays to Southwold when I was a kid.

There's a nice camp site down by the estuary there, IIRC, and Adnams Ale is the local tipple. [smiley=beer.gif] What's not to like?

Adnams is (normally) at it's absolute best in the pub by the Brewery :y :y

There's also Woodfordde's Wherry, brewed in Norfolk, which is a very pleasant pint (or more ::)) :y :y

I know I'm slightly biased but East Anglia is a beautiful part of the country and forecast to be nice and warm for the weekend :y :y

Ahh, yes, Wherry is not a bad pint either. :y

In fact, I went to the Norwich beer festival a couple of years ago and was surprised by the number of Anglian brews there which I'd never heard of. <hic!>

Had a chap come into the pub the other day from a local micro-brewery... That was lovely! Keep an eye out for "Dirty Blonde" from Hellhound (I think ::)) or something to do with hounds anyway ;) ;)

Maybe we should organise next years Essex meet to coincide with the  Chappell beer festival - which is about a mile away from the Shoulder of Mutton. :-/
Then again, maybe not - that could get very very messy indeed. ;D ;D ;D
