I'm a bit concerned if your garage can't work it out!!

It's held on by a single hollow bolt, which is either a 12mm female 'alan key' type fitting, or a 27mm hollow hex bolt - varies between the two.

In your situation, I would just get the threaded bit, and convert it to use the spin on filters.  :y

I'll bet my £1 that they weren't using a 24mm(?) spanner/socket on the canister but used the 3/8 square hole instead too ::) ::)

Hope they aren't charging you for a replacement cap ;)

As James said... In your situation it's probably better to convert to spin on filters as I doubt you'll be able to get a new canister today ::)

is the how to...

I would have thought you would have to order one anywhere to be honest.

But I have one waiting to be fitted, you can buy it off me if you can get to Chester?  May just be the only way to get the car running again today?

thanks jimbob but unfortunately cant get to chester today ... what diameter is the convertor maybe just a threaded bit of bar would do as a temp measure

dunno sorry, Im not at home at the mo.

Remember it has to be hollow for the oil to flow through.

Not economical to drive here for one anyway if you dont NEED it today, your dealer can probably have one tomorrow.

Don't know the diameter but its hollow so a threaded bit of bar won't do.

I phoned your house but you weren't in!  ::) ::) ;)
If you're quick ,we could get down to Pimhole, providing they have a V6 in, and get another ally canister. There's nothing wrong with the original set-up as long as you don't get half witted garages swinging off the canister when refitting it.

Ah, Pimhole, what a wonderfull place. I havent been there since the late eighties. Whats it like now? I used to go there to get bits for for my Triumph 2.5, parts were cheaper than the Preston yards as there were so many scrappys competing for your custom.
As i recall there was a corner of one yard that had nothing but NSU R080'S in it :)

There was a bit of a re-vamp a few years ago, there's even  a tarmac road now  ;), a few of the smaller yards have joined up. But the 3 main yards are still going well. If you can't get a part from Pimhole, then you'd be really struggling elsewhere.  :y :y :y
