Title: I had a play in Amigo's old Beastie today Post by TheBoy on 03. May 2011 at 20:11
I work with its new owner, TheDaddy - some of the Mario Karters may know him by another name (spookily enough, there is a Mario Karter called TheDaddy, but thats someone else... ...confused? Me too)
As regulars will recall, I am not a fan of Omega manuals, but I did have myself a little fun :D. TheDaddy doesn't make a good passenger either ;D The handling is OK, though has that MV6 high speed understeer, but I reckon we can get a few more GGs from the motor... |

No, there is something else - it just feels a bit flat IME. I think we will start with the basics. Will probably start with putting the original airbox back on, with the standard cold feed. I was in work gear yesterday, so didn't look at fuel filter etc... |

Breathing hot air from under the bonnet will certainly make it feel "flat" in this weather. :y
Had a split intake duct on my Laguna that let in warm air and I was surprised how noticeable it was. Kevin |

I think that is possibly the biggest problem, as no attempt has been made to prevent hot air getting around the cone filter. 'Flat' is probably a bit harsh, but definately should be a bit more eager. Amigo MX5 did give TheDaddy the original airbox, so its a simple no-cost test, for the sake of 10 minutes effort. I might check and reset BLMs whilst there, so at least the ECU can learn directly from the new filter |

It should already be compensating via the intake air temperature sensor but no harm in a check / reset of the BLMs anyway. |

Vast majority of after market air intakes result in less performance in an MX5. There are only a couple CAI's that do actually work but they cost loads and are quite rare.
I'd stick with the stock item. Last time I was in the MX5 scene people had had found an inexpensive way of super charging them using M45's iirc from BMW Mini's. |

No need, its measuring Mass Air Flow so temp is already taken into account :y I suspect the air temp sensor does little more than allow the ECU to get an estimate of fuel temp (and hence why buggering with it seems to do bugger all) |

Reckon the fuel filter will be at worst, perhaps 4 years old, assuming guy didn't change it in his ownership. Car used to have an mtek chip in but was removed some time prior to sale. I liked the firmer rear springs and the resultant handling but agree it's not very persons idea of fun..... ;)

Oh, never fear, fun was had yesterday morning... ...I'm happy in the knowledge that I scrubbed some tread from TheDaddy's tyres, and burned a gallon of his petrol ;D Is it Irmscher sprung all round? //TB scurries off, forming a plan to nick the springs... |

Lowered irmscher rear, standard mv6 front.
Or did I give you a pair of saloon irmscher rears? Or standards, in an irmscher box? Can't recall now..... :-[ |
