Title: servotronic relay Post by blackviper90210 on 08. May 2011 at 15:56
Hi all,
Trying to locate the relay for the power steering on my f/l. Looked in the panel under the steering column but can't see it. Any idea what position number/sign it is please? I'm going to swop the relays over onto my mini facelift to see if that is why my steering is heavy at low revs. TIA :y |

hmmm in a facelift it should be under the steering coloumn behind the fusebox :-?
the only info i can give you is that they are hidden quite high, quite difficult to see but it is red :y looking at your profile you say you have a 99 f/l so im wondering whether the relay is behind glovebox as it is in mfl :-/ :-/ |

hmmm just reread your post

do you mean the fuse box?? if so you are looking in wrong place :( get your head in footwell and take felt trim off above pedals but under fusebox the relays are up in there behind the fusebox :y |

Haha, was looking in the wrong place then.. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
Will go & have another look! I'm taking it off my facelift to try on the mini facelift to check if that is the fault before changing the steering pump. I was advised that yesterday on here, so learning as I go! Cheers for that. :y |

Remove passenger kick panel look up and it`s the red one. |

thought in a mfl it was behind glovebox rob and in a f/l behind fusebox :-/

I might be wrong, but facelift 2.0, 2.5 & 3.0`s are behind pass. kickpanel. The breaker (F/L "Y" reg 3.0ltr was behind kickpanel `cause I got it in the shed ;D ;D ;D ......around the £70 mark from VX IIRC

I must be blind today. Just been out again to the f/l, taken the kick panel down and looked up behind the fusebox.
All I can see is a plastic panel approx 1" sq running from across the back of the fusebox with a bunch of wires running above it. Put my hand up and had a poke about but can't see or feel anything?? Someone shoot me and put me outa my misery! :'( |

That might be why then. Was told it was drivers side kick panel, not passenger side! |

Well I think I've hit the jackpot this time. Found 2 large blocks, 1 grey, 1 red!
Next question, do they just pull out or is there clips holding them? Just tried to get the red one out, but its bloody cramped and awkward to get at! |

Pull out, bloody stiff. You can try using a small bladed screwdriver to gently lever around the base

Quite possibly, but as advised it's well worth it just in case it is the relay! My mini facelift has only done 71k, so hoping it is just that! |

Title: Re: servotronic relay Post by blackviper90210 on 08. May 2011 at 17:09
At the end of the day, if it's not the relay, I've learned about a relay that could be the culprit AND where they are! Either way its not been a wasted effort! :)

Hi all, sorry for the big delay in getting back with an update. SWMBO decided to book a few days at Butlins with our toddler!
Well after swapping over the relay with a known working one, it's made no difference... >:( Oh well, will need to sort out a replacement and get it changed :'( :'( :'( Thanks all for the advice ref the relay, was well worth the try :y |

Hi Fiend61, either my laptop is trying to p*ss me off too, or the link doesn't want to play ball! :-/
Will have a look in the how to section for it anyway now I know its on here, but doubt I'll do it. I usually end up with spare bits after taking things apart and putting them back together!! ;D ;D |

Title: Re: servotronic relay Post by fiend61 on 15. May 2011 at 08:22
its in the maintenance index, close to top involves removing ram system, aux belt and then pump, really not that difficult, mind you i have done two now :(
good luck |
