Title: Winter tyres in the summer Post by Kevin M on 08. May 2011 at 19:10
So suddenly it's mid-May already and I've still got the winter tyres on the car. I am tempted to leave them on through the summer.
Advantages - no messing about changing sets of wheels; remembering to put them on; can sell on the set of wheels & summer tyres. Disadvantages - ? Omega's only doing about 6k miles a year now, so 3,000 miles or so of wear until October isn't much of a disincentive. And I don't drive fast regularly or habitually. Not nowadays. That's all behind me, your honour. Anybody got any thoughts or experience of bad points in just leaving them on? K |

your brake pads, clutch disc (if manual) and winter tires will finish early ..also you will consume more fuel..

explanation? my brother in law drives all year round with winter tyres and does 200k a day without problems yes the compound is designed for cold weather but is also designed to hot conditions too, extra fuel is always a question as winter tyres are not so energy efficient and yes they will wear quicker than a summer tyre but that's your choice, what would put me off is the extra road noise!! |

Ran winters all year round last year, no problems that I recall

when the temperatures get really hot, in summer, the winter tires start to wear out rapidly.
And, because they generate a bit more vibrations than normal tires, the bearings die a bit quicker (but not much). They do provide A LOT of grip, though. |

o.k but brake pads clutch??? they are still round aren't they :D and o.k maybe ideally not designed as such for hot weather but they won't explode will they???? ;D if there's cases of that then i was lucky last year!! but i will say fuel is something to think about |

more grip on tires more force/wear on pads when braking.. more grip on tires more force on clutch when accelerating/decalarating.. some has to pay the difference..when I change to winter tires in october/november I feel like some one is holding the car from behind ;D increased fuel consumption is normal as you can expect.. |
