Title: Car flooded - a cautionary tale Post by Alex on 24. Jul 2011 at 18:50
Car parked in the driveway during 3 days of (very) heavy rain. When I came to use it I saw that I had about 3 inches of water sloshing about in the rear nearside footwell. It turned out that the drainage pipe in front of the heater intake in the engine bay was blocked and the intake had about 5 inches of water in it. I know it's not the easiest place to check, but be aware it can happen - although how all the gunge got down there is beyond me,

I got rid of the slit obstruction at the bottom of the drain pipe by cutting it off and extending the tube a bit and now even the largest of leaves do not obstruct the water draining away. I still check it each time open the bonnet though, especially after heavy rain is forecast cos you never know..... :y
And yep, it was schoolboy error ;D considering the amount of times this has been brought up before. Lesson learned I hope. Try using a Shamcloth by JML, they are brill for soaking up water. :y |

Alex - bad luck, thanks for posting in an attempt to help others avoid the problem.
To those who crowed " haha schoolboy error" etc. did you not notice that this member has only 16 posts to his name? Hardly likely to have seen reference to the dodgy scuttle drain in that time? Bit of sympathy/courtesy wouldn't go amiss. :-? |
