opinions please. i know the omegas run hot but do they all come out looking like this.

Yes, looks like a particularly rubbish pattern part that has been in too long. It's a good job it didn't collapse completely and starve the engine of oil, although the bypass valve (and the fact it has no sealing ring around the base) might well have been saving the day there. Never seen a genuine GM filter come out out of shape like that.

If that had happened during a 20k main dealer service interval I could almost have believed it but in 7k? :o

Only one possibility. Shite quality part. I'm guessing the materials weren't up to the job. :(

Agreed. Normally a reputable brand, but that filter hasn't  faired too well. :-/

I don't want cast aspertions here but was it fitted properly ? it looks shorter than the new one and looks like it was crushed on fitting.

ACDelco are a very good company, I have no link to the company except the hundreds possibly thousands of there product I have fitted.

Are you sure its a genuine AC delco?
loads of copys about these days.

The font looks different to AC Delco somehow, looks dodgy to me.

il second that, doesnt really look like it could degrade in that form with use over time.. talking about oil filters how often are you expected to change them?

That looks in exactly the same state as the filter I took out of my breaker - the bottom end was seized solid.No obvious reason apart from very old oil and the crushed filter.

Stallion - oil & filter changes - opinion varies a bit but generally 3000 - 5000 miles.The secret to a sweet running,reliable,long lasting v6. :y

Stallion. Vx service interval is 20k :o :o Personally I prefer to stay under 5k, and that's with a LPG conversion so cleaner burn/less oil contamination

Saying it looks crushed.   Is it a possibility that  it is the wrong filter? 

I got a couple from VX recently, I asked for  2 for the miggy & 2 for SWMBO's 1.2 Corsa.

Filters look exactly the same except for the length. Part numbers also similar , only one digit different as I remember.

  I am thinking that maybe if the longer one  was used, it could have crushed as filter cap was screwed on .

Yep, it did.Looked like it had been in there quite a while too iirc.
Full VX service history I presume ? ::)

Both my 2.6's came out like that thought it was just mine. Genuine used in both. Now have GM in 1 and hengst in the other just to see if they do the same.
