Is it worth fitting Heavy Duty Springs to back of my mine? I put new ones on about 2 or 3 years ago, which were standard KYB.

One of them has already snapped, I'm wondering if the extra constant weight of LPG tank would affect them?

Car is used just weekly at the moment rather than daily, so quite often sits for a week with a full-ish tank of gas.

Thoughts?

Are the non self levelling estate springs stiffer?,if so may be a useful upgrade for a saloon which  is carrying permanent extra weight

Estate ones I think are bigger (taller), not stiffer ?  :-/

Just get the heavy duty ones, it's a lot of extra weight for it to carry  :y

assume KYB just do 'Heavy Duty' ones if I ask for them at motor factors?  :-/

Ive tried the so called KYB heavy duty springs on my previous F/L 2.2 saloon, as i was pulling around alot of wait in the boot and tbh i didnt see any difference if anything they were worse than vx standard springs. but thats my view on them, dont know if anyone else has tried them.. :-/

unless the motor factors claimed they were 'HEAVY DUTY' when they were standard  >:( >:(

I dont think having a lot of weight in the boot causes the snapping tbh. The roads in this country are in a shocking state, and the shock of potholes etc. kills springs. Broken springs were very rare 20 years ago, nowadays they have almost become a service item.

Agreed. And it's not just the Omega that suffers ;)

Kyb catalogue is available to view on line.

Afaik they only do standard and sl springs, but I've never needed to look up heavy duty items.

I would only fit heavy duty for load carrying purposes personally.  :-/

I've not seen one yet.

Fiestas, Mondeos, and C3's on the other hand are virtually a weekly occurance. Low mileage cars seem to be worse for them if that means anything!

The state of the roads certainly can't help, but I think the  use of 'pig-tail' springs is a bigger factor; it's usually the tail that snaps off. Plus, recent springs seem to be a lot shorter than older ones; compare a Sierra spring to a Mondeo one for instance, which means they must be stiffer.

Like a lot of(all?) modern stuff, it seems that 'just good enough' isn't!

In the last month I've done two on a signum,one on a golf R32 and one on a focus so yes pretty common these days :-X

Not surprised at all around there with all the road humps.

Here I travel an extra mile to avoid one road of bumps since I broke the exhaust on them once.

I do not go to the tip so tippable stuff gets binned as I grounded on one bump

They were KYB, but buypartsby don't seem to list them anymore.

Part number was RJ6211.
