Title: Cambelt kits
Post by activamad on 18. Aug 2011 at 06:57
Apologies if this has been covered, did a search but no info. Need cambelt kit for the elite and prices seem to hover around the £100 mark, except buypartsbuy who sell them for about £70. Anyone have experience comments on their quality?

Thanks
Ade

buypartsby should be OK, phone them up and stipulate a Gates or Contitek.

I've bought load of Contitech kits off Buypartsby and i've not had a failure yet but their delivery can be a bit hit and miss so order it well in advance ;)

Thanks for the info. Is there any way of telling from the part number which kit you are getting or do they always supply contitech or skf?

Interestingly, I've just fitted a Contitech belt kit. Previous one was a gates kit.

The Contitech belt is much quieter. There was always a rev-dependant whining noise with the Gates belt. It was still timed and tensioned perfectly on removal and both kits had identical SKF bearings in the rollers. I reckon it's down to the material / construction of the belt. :-/

Or the noise depends on the place of the belt on pulleys  :-? I assume it might have an effect to have the belt in the front of pulleys, in the middle of pulleys or in the back of pulleys? Even 1mm difference would make some noise different, would it?

Not sure what make the previous kit was, but the new conti tek kit is quieter with more consistent whineing noise.

It's still there though, do pre face lift owners hear it?

Just to confirm, Contitech kit supplied for my mid range engine number. Ordered 25th, arrived today, not too shabby considering bank holiday. Very pleased with service from them.
