Title: Rear Diff Oil
Post by Radar on 22. Aug 2011 at 22:05
Can anyone recommend one which has a long enough plastic tube built in for easy top up?
(Non LSD)

Thanks

You only need 3-4 inches of tube max, as you can get the bottle pretty close to the file hole.  :y

Any old EP90 hypoid gear oil will do. I guess a trip to the local motor factors to check the spouts is the best plan. :-/

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but is it a simple job to top up. i have a very small oil leak on mine and want to top it up to be on the safe side.

I suppose I should have a look at the level on mine too. My car won't rust around the floor pan around the diff/prop  ::) ::)

You can just top it up Dan, or you can do a complete fluid change if you want. Have a look here.  :y

I went to the stealers and the chap said it does not come with a tube and couldn't check since it had to come from another dealer :'(

Seen some on halfords - is gl5 more suitable than gl4?

Looks straightforward - jack up rear drivers side and locate hex bolt on side of diff. Undo the bolt,  top up and tighten bolt again.

When I did my diff and gearbox, I used Opie Oils. Check out there link at the top of the 'parts for sale' section.

They offer discounts to OOFers and the oil was delivered next day! Spot on!  :y

Yes, GL5 is better for diffs, if I recall correctly. GL4 is for certain gearboxes where some of the more aggressive additives in GL5 oils would attack the metal bushes.  No such problems putting it in a diff.
