Title: Rear brake pad retaining pins Post by Malcolm_D on 24. Aug 2011 at 22:20
I have just replaced the rear brake pads on my 2002 2.6 Elite, the pads (Ferodo) were bought from my local motor factors who are reliable and very helpful. When I fitted them I had to reuse the old pins as the ones supplied with the new pads were about 10mm too short. I queried this with the motor factors but despite checking other pad kits and checking with different suppliers nothing of a similar length could be found.
I suggested that it may be because the rear discs are vented but the guy at the motor factors had checked later models with vented discs without success. Does anyone have an answer to this issue or better still an OE number of a rear brake pad kit which includes retaining pins of the correct length? The short ones are 73mm in length. |

It will be down to vented discs.
There is no issue with reusing the old ones :y |

Re use the old ones if they are intact Buy the pin kit on it's own. Buy oe pads as they have pins, springs, and shims included. But they are expensive. Ferrodo pads are |

True and true. I had exactly the same problem. I have an unused fixing kit complete with the shorter non-vented pins if anyone needs them. :y |

I have just purchased rear pads, discs and a fitting kit for my 1998 2.5 V6 Tourer. The pins came from Motaquip, part no. VMK 726 and they are also much shorter than the ones on the car. Here's a photo:-
I decided to use the new ones and found I could just get them to fit with the spring bit halfway in, but they certainly should be longer and I'll be informing the trader who supplied them. |

Don't know what happened to the photo. I'll try again.
