Not having driven another Omega, I might be worrying over nothing. :(

My brake pedal travel is what I class as excessive. It seems to travel half way to the floor before anything happens. The brakes DO work, and ABS kicks in :y There is no fluid leak.

I have had the fluid changed, and had new discs and pads on the front and new pads on the back. The back discs are worn a bit, but no way critical. The brake pedal travel was the same before the work was done (which is why I had it done in the first place)
Also it did pass the MOT with no problems.
Is this normal...as in my Laguna Estate, the brakes work instantly.

IME pedal travel on the Omega is as you describe, and I've driven several ;)

When I got this one the fluid was 8 years old and I had really bad fade because I kept boiling the fluid ::) Once changed it was fine :y You've had that done and say the abs can be triggered so yours is probably fine too :y

Seems to be a characteristic of the car imo.Every one I have driven has more pedal travel then most other cars seem to have. :-/

Don't want to turn this into a discussion thread, but hope you are ok.
So basically, putting new discs on the back won't  make any difference....I'll save my money. ;)

would'nt have thought so...pads will if they are worn :y

My omega had a soft pedal when I first got it,a fluid change and all new pads (rears were seized in calipers)and freeing off front  caliper slide pins made it much better

there is a lot of movement in the pedal, in motherT's other ride a Nissan Almera, a feather on the brake is like an emergency stop.

When she first drove Omegas, she thought the brakes were rubbish & did not work.

A couple of "quick" stops, showed they stop a 2ton car quite well  :D

They are a progressive brake pedal.

Most ther cars have an over assisted servo which makes brake progression non existant.

It does not however mean the brakes are poor as Omega brakes are not (infact if they are working well and you do an emergency stop, check the rear window!)

Have you checked the brake servo vacuum pipe rubber connector? Mine was split and i replaced the rubber and have noticed slightly less brake travel. The connector is to the right of the brake fluid resevoir and a picture can be found here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1314489279/2#2

if you let the miggy rest for some weeks pedal travel can become "interesting" but must turn to normal quickly..

Its normal to have a fair amount of brake travel.

Next time you're up, pop it round, I'll tell you if its normal :y

No problem - its not like you are making a special journey if you're up this way visiting anyway :)
