Title: Spanner light
Post by Deuce on 30. Aug 2011 at 20:29
This evening my car/spanner light came on and it stays on even after switching the engine off and on. The car drives no different from before. I've had it a week now and done a few hundred miles. I read on here somewhere that this could be the cam sensor. Is it an easy fix?

What else could it be?

Pedal trick on the 2.6. Unlikely to be cam sensor

0420/0430 may well have appeared .. quite a common problem on the 2.6 / 3.2 engines makes absolutely no difference to how the engine runs .. but of course the light being on would "mask" a more serious problem.

Pedal trick as Rob says and post up the result .. :)

Stick your location in your profile, someone with a reader/resetter may be near you to help :)

Cheers, will give that a go.

I have an OBD2 reader but I can't find the socket.

Socket is in the fuse box under the steering wheel .. right by your knees !!  :)

Cheers!

Just done the pedal trick and looked up the codes

Got 1614
(P1614 Wrong Transponder Key Immobiliser)

Then the flashing paused and I got 1523
(P1523 Electronic Throttle Control Malfunction)

When I picked up the car I filled up with fuel and the key came apart and would not start the car after I put it back together, I got home on the spare before checking the floor the next day to find a small plastic bit which I fitted into the broken key and hey presto, it worked again. Could the 1614 be a stored code from then? and the 1523 be my current problem?

Clear both codes to reset the light then re-start engine see what happens with the spanner light

As RobG says, clear out what is in there, then see what comes back when :)

Good news. I found the fuses and OBD socket and plugged my scan tool into it. As soon as I asked the scanner to read the codes, the light went out and it found no codes.

Funny thing is that I did not ask the scanner to delete anything??

Anyway, sorted for now.

Thanks guys. :y

If/when it comes back on, do pedal trick again (I'm slightly suspicious of you obd2 tool deleting codes), and see what that says.

Keep us informed :y
