Hi guys

I had my a/c regassed a few weeks ago (quite why I bothered, given the weather!). It works perfectly apart from one thing - I can only switch it off (ECO button) when it's in "Auto" mode.

Now I'm fairly certain that the ECO button always used to work irrespective of what mode the system was in - or is my memory playing tricks on me?!?!

Any ideas anyone?

I'm pretty sure that mine only works on auto as well

Edit   no, I'm wrong,mine works whichever setting its on as I've just checked

Auto will turn the compressor off & on when needed giving your aircon when its hot.

In ECO mode, it will never turn the compressor on

Yeah, I know!  :D That's what I want to be able to do.


I seem to recall reading here somewhere that a combination of button pushes will 'reboot' the system. I'm wondering if having the system under-gassed for a while has somehow caused it to 'forget' the button programming?

Holding down Auto & OFF for around 5 seconds will reset the system, you will hear the fans shut down.

If its low gas pressure, the compressor just won't engage. Its the same if its below a certain temp  :y

Thanks Tunnie. I didn't know which two to press!! The system's fully charged and works perfectly - it's disengaging the pump (except when in Auto) that is playing up!

Far as I understand it, it will not disengage the pump in Auto unless it falls below a certain temp, at the moment its still fairly warm, so it will always be on in Auto  :y

When in 'AUTO', selecting ECO disengages the pump and the refrigeration function. It's a fuel saving measure as the aircon puts a load on the engine.

As Henry above says, the ECO selection should work under any conditions - but mine will only work ('work' in this sense meaning, "to disengage the compressor") when the system is in AUTO. It's a pain in the bum having to select AUTO just to make the ECO button work.

I'll try the two-button reset tonight and see if that corrects the fault.

Yeah I know.

As I said above if in "auto" it will not disengage the compressor, unless the temp outside falls below certain amount, or "eco" is pressed

Thanks for the help guys - the "Two Button Reset" worked perfectly.

I wonder how much a stealership would charge for a system reset!!

(Wife's Astra was left standing for a few weeks and the battery went flat. As a result the remote locking lost it's programming. A quick posting on a sister site and I found out how to reprogramme the system - a job I know from bitter experience that Vx charge something like £50 a key!! Long live forums like this!!)
