? about condenser and gearbox clicks..
22. Jul 2006 at 21:02

Hola dudes..

Well I've come to the conclusion that my condenser has a hole in it. (just had the aircon regassed and about 5-6 days later it's dead again)

Is there a how to on changeing a condenser? (can't find one)

---

? number two is just something I have noticed while driveing with the windows down (due to that non-working aircon.. grrr!). When shifting down from 5th gear the gearbox kinda "clicks" pretty loud but only when changeing down from 5th. Is this normal? There dosn't appear to be anything wrong, I'm just curious.

Thanks in advance..

Did the aircon people put dye in it - this will show where leak is.... (it may not be condensor)

Yup they put ultraviolet dye in it, but I can see that theres a green spot on the condenser, so I recon there was a hole in it to begin with.. (I guess that is one leak the pressure test wouldn't show)

Not sure how easy condensor is to change. A member near me bought the parts, and paid a local aircon specialist £30 to fit it, and another £60 to refill.  I seem to recall there are precautions that need to be taken around the dryer...

I also had a duff condensor.  I toyed with the idea of changing it myself but was not sure how much gas (if any) remained in the sysztem.  In the end I chickened out and got it done.

As The Boy states, there was a member who got the part and paid to have it fitted and then gassed.  I was going to follow this route but could not in the end due to time constraints.

If you want to have a go yourself, please be aware that you MUST be TOTALLY sure that there is no gas in the system.  I do not know what year your car is, but the Haynes manual for the pre facelift give the procedure for chaging the condensor.

Autovaux quoted me around £230 for condensor and filter / dryer.

THe click is a prevent reverse thingy to stop you shoving it in reverse at speed

Also try Ebay for condensors

Ebay is the best place.

There is a seller on there (mixandfix) who does a new Omeag condensers and receiver dryer for £165 delivered.

His shop is here.....
