Rear Electric Blind
31. Jul 2006 at 11:32

Hi All

Seen this on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320012069734&ssPageName=ADM...

It is a rear sun blind.  The seller says that the wiring is already present in the Omega and I was thinking of getting it to fit to the CDX.  So, it the wiring already present and it is simply a case of fit the blind and then the switch?

Is it a mod worth doing or is the blink a bit of a gimmick?

I have a rear blind in my CD, it was there when I brought it.

it was a very expensive option new, and is well worth the upgrade.

I have seen GLS's with the loom already in pleace.

It is a small black connector in the top left corder of the boot.

Just add the blind and shelf (there is a great how2 on the site, but if you get stuck, then just ask) and plug in the switch, it goes next to the passenger Heated front seat switch.

IT is well worth it, I wouldn't be wothout mine.

We have a 15wk old baby in a rear facing car seat, and it great for keep the sun out of her face.

depending how high the bids go, there is a blind in my local scrappy!

Tbh i have never felt the need for a blind, the sun that comes though the back never reaches or affects me. So would make no differnce what so ever for myself.

If you have kids of people in the back a lot, then it might be worth it. Also some people use it to stop glaring lights at night.

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

IIRC the rear blind was part of an option pack on the early CD models - for your £1000(!) you got aircon and the rear blind!

Dependant on the colour of your omega, it can be a really neat way of slowing down the boy racers (and white van man) coming screaming up behind you.
You can never be sure that the coppers aren't still running un-marked Omegas Smiley

Tunnie,

Ths pics you posted of your local scrappy looked very interesting and now I am sorely tempted to take a trip over there - mainly to see if I can obtain any doors to replace my ones. Smiley

Where exactly is it and do you have an address or postcode?

The yards round here are useless Sad

Project B - sounds interesting Marks DTM has an ex plod car

I have added an Electro-Chromatic rear view mirror, which currently doesn't work.

Smiths of Bloxham - Milton Road, Banbury, OX15 4HD

I soon will be living back in Hayes! I am at Brunel Uni in Uxbridge, but live on Station Road in Hayes, just after the cross roads near the Tesco Express.

As for you doors, I don't remember seeing any in Gold, some of the doors are in very good condition, but the cars were mainly blue / green colour for some reason. There is even a purple facelift one, as its a facelift the boot release is electronic and since the engine was not under the bonnet and most of the electrics ripped out, i thought "hummm don't think the boot will open!!"

So i opened the back door and popped the rear seats down... i was after the spare, but found the entire 2.0 engine in the boot!

I should have taken more pictures of the yard of all the omega's left, i might do that today acually as we are popping out again.

If you do want to pop up here (junction 11 or 10) on the M40 its about 50 mins from hayes on a good run, I can show you the yard.

The blind in mine packup up about 2 months agop, so I went to the local scrappy and found an Elite that had been stripped, but they had left the rear blind.

So I took it to replace my broken one.

Cost me £10, as they dont know what anything is!

Paid £5 for a bumper reinforcement panel, and a flitch end, when Megavaux wanted nearly £40 for the same two items!

Cheers for that Tunnie.

I know where you mean in Hayes, I live the other end, near the Grapes.

Bit of a blow re the doors, but as it has been so long since visiting a decent yard, I must stroll along to it regardless.  Who knows, may be able to pick a few things up whilst there!

It is amazing some of the things you find in the car, before I had the Omega there was one in the local scrapper.  It was either a CDX or Elite and had not one but two cd changers in the boot.  One in the normal place and the other just laying in the boot.  Both had the magazines as well.  I left them there but have wished several times that I had not!

More pics of the yard would be interesting - to me at least! Grin

If I do come up, I will PM you however, with sat nav I should be able to find it.  I will do a route and see.

Markiec - yes, am aware that the bids will go high but will watch anyway and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for your replies Smiley

Hi - reference the blind, do you know if it is heavy? Just thinking about possible postage costs to NI. Don't seem to be many Omegas over here in the breakers, and would like a blind really.
