Mark,

Could you please re-iterate what the 'Omega usual buying guide' is as i'm pretty crap at buying cars and knowing what to look for.  I know about drop links etc but wouldn't know where they are or if they are good or not.  Same goes for track rod ends etc.....

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Mel

Basicaly check it drives in a straight line, listen for knocks at the front etc when going over bumps, check inside edge of tyres for wear, look for service history as they should have oil change every 5K miles.

HPI check it and check panels are straight etc, look under boot carpet to check for ripples.

Make sure all the gadgets work......aircon nice and cold etc.

The alloys on these have no problems, its the pre-facelift 17 inch MV6 ones that are a bit weak.

Understatement of the year. And at £236.01 each, not cheap either  Angry

!!!! ouch!!

passing a garage today, saw a W Reg Pre-facelift MV6 with LPG conversion going for 3k, it was mint!! brand new tyres all round with excellent tread, new exhaust, oil recently changed, had been really well look after.

I was soooo tempted due to the gas conversion...

but £230 a tyre ouch!!! surely there are cheaper ones out there?

@ Sparkybun.... check the climate is ICE cold and not just cool.... it should make your skin feel 'dry'... put it on "LO" and that will force the system to pump out ice cold air...

To add to MarkDTM's list check the cambelt on the history... remember with V6's the waterpump should have been changed along with the belt, tensiors and pulleys.

Cambelts should be done every 4 years or 40k miles....

Engine bay looks ok.... press every button make sure it does something!! - Make sure all bulbs work xeons are verrry expensive if blown.

Other than that, good luck facelift 2.5 TD is uncommon.......(i hate using the word 'rare' with the omega)

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

its still bit tatty... cleaned the outside and sorted a few bits out, came up a treat.

Still need to check the battery with volt meter to determin wether its the battery or alternator.

I have to use a jump box everytime i go anyware in it....

2.5TD is a BMW engined lump with chain driven cams, so no worries on the belt.

For a W reg, that is very cheap... especially in London, so be VERY thorough and do an HPI check!
Check the chasis number on th V5 matches the car.
Being the diesel, it will put a lot of wear on the front tyres and brakes, so look carefully at them.

Check the brand of tyres. Look for same (known) brand all round as a good sign. different tyres on each wheel is a bad sign.

As others have said, check ALL the toys,

Make sure the engine is cold when you go to look at it. Many a problem is hidden with a warm engine.

When driving it should have a decent amount of pull, and you should feel the turbo kick in around 2.5k rpm.

Finally, go with your instincts on the seller. Someone who is too friendly, usually is for a reason....
