Not so critical on the V6.
On the 4 pot the water pump is driven by the cambelt so it is critical to change the pump with the belt. A water pump failure there will cause severe damage!

On the V6 the water pump is driven off the aux belt.
It is, however, wise to change the water pump at least every other cambelt change.
You strip down to it to do the cambelt so it is simply 5 mins extra work (and £25)  for the total piece of mind.

I cannot remember the exact technical reason why you replace it, but someone who knows more will be along in a min....

I must change mine with my next belt change...

v6 water pump is NOT driven by cambelt. 4 pot one is.

For sake of £20 + VAT on v6, when doing the cambelt, do water pump seeing as its stripped down that far. On 4 pot, change water pump coz it is driven by cambelt.

Supplying dealer paid for the orig cambelt change and all the rest of the changes were done under warranty....woulda cost me mega bucks at vx prices to have it all sorted if not.
