DTi poor starting when cold?
16. Aug 2006 at 14:55

Takes a good few turns over to get started when its cold, like when been stood overnight or while at work for 6-8 hours...and when it eventually starts it flings a cloud of bluey white smoke out of the exhaust...its fine when its warm though, starts pretty much 1st time.

I managed to speak to the guy that has done all the servicing on it, and he told me the only problem he had with the car was the 'fuel return pipe(s?)', but he thought he'd got it sorted...could this be the route of my problem, as if the fuel is draining away from where it should be held, or something?

That would be my first port of call, the fuel leak off pipes. If air gets into the system it takes some cranking to shift it.

Nice one Mark thanks...where would they be located please, and what would need rectifying on them?, i presume it will be like a one-way valve type thing, similar to whats in the washer system?

Im not 'up' on this engine yet...no bloody Haynes manual for my year (I dont think).

Metal pipes run from Injector pump to the injectors, rubber hoses carry the return back to the injector pump. Those are the first port of call. Mark is quite right and has learned well from everything I have had to teach him about these iesel Omegas. Wink

Lol, sorry sick as a dog yesterday so hence no posts....
The pipes in question link the 4 injectors an then on number one cylinder (from memory) a pipe travels back to the injection pump.

Its basically rubber pipe so easy enough to change and rule out.

Havent actually looked into this yet  Embarrassed

Just thinking about it, i think its been worse since it was serviced...could they have done anything that may have affected this, fuel filter or the fuel drain water filter?
