Shocking!! VX dealer stikes again
23. Aug 2006 at 09:02

Hello,

Had some relatives come round last night to look at our new baby Smiley, plus bring round a load of clothes. I went outside to close the gates and saw what they were driving, a very tidy P reg Vectra CDX 2.5.

I remarked on how nice a car it was, to be met with the following tale of woe.

The owner was experiencing a problem where by the engine would cut out on approaching junctions, IACV and CAS sprang into my mind, both relatively easy repairs, EGR also popped in from Omega V6 experience.

Anyway, she goes on to say that a 'friend', who works at Patchway Vauxhall had offered to take it in for a look, doing it over lunchtime. Two weeks later, he still has the car. £400 later, he has fitted a replacement ECU which solves the problem, then again, he didn't say what else he had done.

I was rather upset for them, as I could have repaired the problem for a heck of a lot less, and probably not needed to replace the ECU, the problem being either the CAS, IACV or EGR. Starting with a clean of the IACV and taking it from there.

She knows for the future to bring the car to me first if there's any issues.

Rant over, just thought I'd share that with you all.

It does go to show that some VX dealers are excellent, some less so. One dealer, in Walton, nr Glastonbury has been established for years. Their, IMHO, very very good and know the cars well.

James

Well according to official Vx maintenance schedule, the ECU is a consumable service item and the replacement interval is 'whenever the customer complains about any fault with the car'.  Angry

Thats the business thinking these days  Sad

Few years ago my dad was working a project in MK, he saw a brand new 17"monitor going for the crusher. Picked it off, and inspected. Lable said 'faulty return from customer'

Turns out 1 little resistor had blow, which stopped it turning on. Few pence later we had a working 17" monitor!!

Its cheaper in terms of labour and time, just to replace things now rather than find the fault.

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine
