Missing vacuum pipe
25. Aug 2006 at 10:09

OK, I have a missing vacuum pipe, but can't seem to find it.

There is a large vacuum host from plenum to brake servo. Nearest the servo end, I have a 90 degree rubber connector, but with no small vacuum pipe going to it. Hissing like hell...

Anyone know where this pipe should go? Will this cause a hesitation on revving from idle?

should be 2 conections there shouldn't there if I remember correctly

1 to the HBV and one to the vac res? If your heaters getting hot then it will be the vac res one, which will cause hesitation as i think it controls the multiram valves.

Look at Marks guide in the maintainance section http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204.

There are two versions of pipework depending on age, it should be possible to trace the pipes back from each connected device to find the loose end.

I just found it - it goes back to a vacuum valve on the air injection. Not sure what it does though...

Incidentally, I can't seem to find and vaccum reservoir on this one...

Ignore comment about reservoir, found it just where Mark said it would be...

Primary function is controlled by ecu, opens the valve to admit secondary air when air pump is running at start-up.
Secondary function is to melt or catch fire in event of the air injection non-return valve failing.

The pipe that goes from valve to presumably pump has a bloody great hole in it. I will replace (probably from scrappy) this hose, but is I assume not a problem to drive?

The pipe that bends through 90 deg and goes down side of radiator and ends up at air pump. Usually splits at elbow near the valve.

Yes you can drive without it but unplug the air pump and also remove (and blank off) the vacuum pipe connected to the solenoid.
Reason being that if the non-return valve is a bit tired and not sealing properly and if you also dont have full pressure from the air pump because of the split then exhaust gasses can come out of the air injection pipework and cause damage.

You might remember some photos from MadDog of a very melted air injection valve due to a leaky non return valve (and also high exhaust back pressure)

You could remove all the secondary air injection system. It creates lots of space around the cam cover / radiator. You have to keep the solenoid connected though to keep the ecu happy.
