Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Forget that Idea it looks like its too far away from the road wheel to be a speed sensor.

Not sure what it could be

Grin

That's a crank sensor!  Smiley

It has obviously been replaced and they didn't remove the old one.
It sits next to the oil filter

Edit: And when did that last have an oil and filter change?
That is certainly not a Vx filter!  Wink

Thats a crank sensor. Fits into a hole just below and slightly right of the oil filter. If there is one already fitted there then the old one died but was left hanging because its impossible to separate the wiring from the oil cooler pipes and exhaust without x-ray vision and several additional joints inserted into the forearm.

Yup, crank sensor - remember I said to you it had been changed, and was routed via the abs unit, rather than down back of engine...

Ahh ok, sorry. Again some expert huh?

Just topped the oil up (was on the min stop) & gave the ICV another clean, and took the car for a bit of a run. - Its definetly quiter than before now, when i got it back, i reved the engine with the bonnet up. It seams much much quieter now, although there is still a ticking noise on idle.

If i held the gas pedal at say 1,800 rpm or 2,500 rpm the engine sounds sweet as a nut. No tapping noise what so ever, it seams to be between idle and about 1,500 rpm its at its loudest.

Again got a bit of long wood, and poked it all around the heat shield on the passenger side. Although its loose to pull up, pinning it down with something did't affect its sound  Sad

Tempted to go down to ATS, and get "quote" on the problem.

If it was the manifold gasket I wouldn't expect it to go quiet at higher revs then start again when it went back to idle. It might stop as it warmed up but I still wouldn't expect it to start again at idle.

If this is the '95 car I think it would be lifters. My '97 2.5 had three duff lifters at the front drivers side exhaust that wouldn't hold their pressure at idle.

I've got 21 good old style lifters since I'm replacing all of mine while it's apart. I'd be happy to send you some once mines back together and runing. I'm still waiting for AutoVaux to get me my 4 new 'T' vents, you have to use the new style vents with new style lifters, so I don't know when they will be available yet.
