Aug 2006 at 10:45 i did't realise how much i used steering wheel controls until i changed my headunit, bought an steering wheel adaptor loom as i could't live without them! As TheBoy says you will most likley need quite lot of bits, and maybe Tech2 as well to enable it?

Aug 2006 at 11:04 Tech2 shouldn't be needed. As long as the car has a compatible stereo, should be plug and play. But I suspect the wiring will also need to be added....

Me too... I think they're great. I couldn't care less for the display though, especially since my head unit has a hi-res screen so the crappy 8 or 10 character radio display in the MID wouldn't be much use anyway.

I hardly reach down to the radio now, except when using the navigation or searching for a band by name etc.

Aug 2006 at 11:55 Yeah, i did have a kenwood doube din headunit which was RUBBISH!!! Now got a sexy Alpine one, the display is soooo much better and the whole unit feels well made. Also now i am using a Single DIN facia adator, got a nice space for my iPod!

When I bought my Omega the previous barstewards had removed the original headunit so I put a new Sony system in which sounds great but the steering wheel controls don't work. Can you get a special wiring loom to enable them?

Most likely.. they usually come in two parts, one that connects to the car side (Vauxhall type) and one for the stereo (Sony type). This lets you mix 'n' match any compatible stereo to any compatible car.

Have a look at this and this. BTW I find these guys to be very helpful, so if you want to buy one they're pretty good service wise, prices tend to be good too (although not always the best, but usually close).
