Strange fuel guage and MID display goings on
10. Jan 2007 at 10:14

A new one on me this morning.

I know i had about 30miles range of fuel this morning and my first port of call was going to be the petrol station about 2 miles away....

When i started the car the guage barely moved.....and the range came in a 0 miles.....

Reset it and it went to 60miles......!!

As i drove the guage seemed to move up and down before i got a range of F >>>

Stuck £20 quid in it and i am sure the guage is jumping every so often between quarter tank ond on the red.....

Range is now displaying intermittantly anything between 30 and 150 miles but still this occasional F>>>

Any thoughs people?

Check the main earth stud in the boot, I seem to recall its behind the plastic trim panel on the rear slam panel.

The range displayed on the centre display can change quite wildly depending on your driving as it recalculates regularly.

I used to come out of Birmingham after 20 mins in city traffic with 40ish miles range, but after a few minutes at 70 mph on the A38, it would change to 65-70ish or higher.

With the problem with the gauge also, I doubt if this is just the above issue. I'm not sure what the link between the actual gauge and the MID display is, but presume they use the same fuel left in tank signal, with the MID using other signals from the engine etc. to calculate range.

When filling-up following urban driving I usually get 350-375 on the range, or up to 450eesh following motorway drive. On one single rare occasion, after a very long and boring journey, I saw the magic 500... it never happened again though.  Sad

I switch mine onto the outside temperature setting.

Your outside temperatures over here in England are depressing viewing, but nowhere near as depressing to see the fuel consumption figures ...especially with the sports button on  Sad

Rather mild down here, if you can tolerate the wind and rain...
