Throttle Body
10. Jan 2007 at 16:07

Hiya Chaps

I am going to change my Throttle Body Gasket tomorrow and give the whole thing a clean out again since it will be off. I need to know two things if poss.

Firstly i dont have a torque wrench and i know the torque setting is 9Nm (7lbs/ft) for the 2.2 throttle body i am guessing its the same for the 2.0L

How tight is 9Nm (7lbs/ft) as ill not be using a torque wrench, I dont want to over tighten it and knack the gasket i know is only paper but i think i over did it in the past and knacked the old one.

Also I have never used Gasket Sealent before i have some BLUE something sealent how much do i apply.
Do I apply it to both the metal surface and the gasket, I just dont want it seaping into the throttle body its self

Sorry to sound daft on the gasket sealent but i have never used the stuff before.

Thanks

Craig

i don't have a torque wrench yet, i just did the nuts up on the throttle body up firmly.

They came off quite easily, so put them back on with the same effort. I should really invest in a torque wrench...

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Craig, as Tunnie said, 9Nm, is just a nip really, so tighten the bolts down, and then just nip them DONT GO MAD !

No gasket sealent needed
mate, just the paper gasket.

You mention a blue sealent, i guess its Hylomar or similar, urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BLOODY horrible stuff, throw it in the bin !

Trouble with 9Nm is that its too loose to be able to judge. Its the tiniest nip...

Seem to remember when i did my cam cover bolts up at 8NM is was about an 1/8 of a turn after the bolt went tight before the torque wrench clicked ..... so if going by that about an 1/8th of a turn  Thumbs Up!

When I did my mates 2.0 we ended up having to adjust the throttle cable as the revs we're went up to about 1100 after the clean.
