White stuff in oil
14. Jan 2007 at 21:07

About to purchase a 3.0 24v elite Omega. But have one concern... Everything on the car is fine, Bar the oil filler and cap have a white residue, usually I would guess Head gasket failure but the guy I'm buying it off says its not, its condensation and its been like it for the three years his owned it.

The car drives fine. There is no oil in the water expansion tank, nothing on the dip stick and the car wasn’t overheating heating.

So what do you reckon guys and gals?

Is there anything else I can check?

PS I’ve looked for buying guides and could find one can somebody point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

They tend to collect mayo in the filler neck this time of year unless given a decent run to heat up fully. No real history of head gasket failures so its probably OK.
Ask for proof of when cambelt and idlers and tensioner were changed last...interval is 40k / 4 years (not 80k as in some books). If no proof then you should budget to get it done asap for peace of mind so use it in negociations.

Take off one of the breather pipes - probably full of goo - easy to clean and no real harm done.  Water pump pliers are best to get at the clips and is caused as Matchless suggests by short runs.

Yep... and if you don't buy this one, keep this bit of info mind for the next Omega you look at. If you find an owner that does not know about this, then you can lift the filler cap and inspect it while looking concerned. Now if the seller is dishonnest he will thing OMG the HG is a goner, but will keep it under his hat and will try to sell you the car at any cost... so you could end-up getting a bargain Grin
