MID , Rev counter , TC problems

My MID is showing a constant 99.99 mpg for instantaneous fuel consumption, the rev counter is not working at all and the TC light is on all the time.(TC is not working) Sad

. These all cropped up at the same time. I could'nt find the problem so took it to a main dealer who I thought would make short work of it once connected up to the diagnostics but no.They spent 2 hours on it, nothing showed up on there computer and were about to take the dash out. They did'nt seem to know what they were looking for so I stopped them before I needed to take out a 2nd mortgage Cry

Its been like this for a year now and now the engine management light has just come on Angry

. This is driving me mad.

Jan 2007 at 19:05 paperclip the engine eml. The TC problem may well be ABS ECU, but if light is on, should be able to read code via Tech2. If no codes, use Tech2 to control light on and off - if light doesn't respond properly, check wiring to bulb (in case someone has done the dirty), but most likely ABS ECU. Esp if 98 onwards.

Thanks for the ideas. The ABS still works fine. The vauxhall main dealer used tech 2 to no avail hence the general hunting around for clues. Any ideas on the rev counter and fuel readout? The average fuel consumption still works fine.

Is the ABS light on as well? TC and ABS are linked to same unit.

Engine management light could be another problem, so while the TC may have not registered a fault code, the EML might... worth trying to read the fault codes again.

Someone will know if the papaer clip test is still applicable for 1999 cars, if not then you may need to invest in a cheap code reader...

No the ABS light is not on and they work fine.

That I'm not sure of.

I've seen a couple of failed ECUs now where the only failure is the light is stuck on...

It just seems to me that all the faults(exept engine management light) are connected, because they all appeared on start up after the car had been unused for a week.
