Bloody Typical!!!
20. Jan 2007 at 02:31

Hello everyone.... typical aint it, last week i had coolant spurting out of the most rediculous and awkward valve i have ever seen in all my life, didn't have a clue what it did or what it was, and was desperate to find a site like this one to find out what it was and where to get one! Tonight im looking for a poxy irmscher grille (that i dont even really need) and bobs ya auntie here you are, the best omega site ever! Anyway i have recently purchased a 2.5v6 auto cdx in a dark met gun metal colour with full cream leather. is there anything i should check/ look out for apart from the rocker cover gaskets and the heater controll valve (ive just replaced them), the car has done 78,000 with every old mot, fvsh +1 carefull elderly gent from new. im about to drop the engine oil, can anyone suggest the best oil. i am no stranger to an engine but this is my first vaux v6 and i'm sure someone has tried and tested everything to do with these beasts so im all ears, many thanks, newby, tim

Hello & welcome  Smiley
Has the timing belt/tensioners been done recently, if not at 78k they're due.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up!

At 78,000 miles I would get the cam belt, tensioners and water pump changed ASAP, unless you have written proof it has been done recently. It needs changing every 40,000 miles, or serious engine damage will occur.

There is a DIY DVD available on this site (£3) with a step by step guide on cam belt change, it's not rocket science, but very expensive at the dealer.

Most owners on this site recomend Vx Semi Synth oil, and change it every 5000 miles (some sooner).

It is critical on the V6 engines to keep the breathers clean, there is a 'How to' under Maintenance Guides), to avoid problems with cam cover gasket failures.

Always use geuine Vx parts, not aftermarket.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to site Smiley

The advice given by Auto Addict above is good.  Cambelt and tensioners are due every 40k, waterpump every other cambelt on v6.

Semi synth oil is an excellent choice, but change far more regular than book states - I do mine every 4k.

Where abouts are you - we may have members near you with 'trade club' which means cheap genuine service parts Wink

Welcome to the forum Tim. Smiley

The advice given by the others is spot on.
The cambelt kit would be my primary concern, especially at 78k.

Seems like you had a fun introduction to Omega ownership with the HBV failing!  Grin

Don't worry though, if you look after them, they are very good, very comfortable cars,
If/when they go wrong, you also have about the best support network for any make/model of car out there!  Smiley
