Another Rookie! MV6 3.0 / Opel Rekord etc
29. Mar 2007 at 20:28

Just joined this forum after reading the excellent technical information posted by Laidback66. I'd seen some of his information on other forums, and got in touch and was chuffed to get a reply with even more useful advice!

Here's the lowdown on my situation:

I've owned an old Opel Rekord Coupe for 1year hoping to restore her and at the same time convert her to a 3.0 V6. With this in mind I recently purchased an Omega MV6 estate ex-police car. Its an R-reg with 180k on the clock BUT had a replacement engine fitted by the rozzers at 100k. It needs an MOT but as I only paid £175 for her she's worth it!! The plan is to get her MOT'd and back on the road, and then use her as a donor car for my Opel. Now before anyone pounces on me, I will only do this if absolutely necessary. Bodywork is showing signs of some rust but nothing at all major. We'll see.

I have previously owned 2 Cavalier 2.5 V6 CDX saloons, one of which I drove to Portugal via France and Spain. I also owned an Opel Monza GSE 3.0 manual, and my wife has a faithful Cavalier2.0 16v CDX. I have also had 2 Vectra SRi 2.2 saloons, both from 2001.

My current cars are:

BMW 525sei E34 - main car but now for sale as Omega to replace it
BMW 325 E30 - bought recently but going to sell her
Opel Rekord Coupe 1968 1.9 - On drive under tarp ready to restore
Vauxhall Cavalier CDX 2.0 16v - wife's car
Daimler Coupe 4.2 1976 - in my garage!
Vauxhall Omega MV6 Estate

Anyway nice to be here.

I would appreciate any advice on the following:

Opel Rekord conversion. First of all is the earlier Omega 3.0 a good option or would i be better getting the later 3.0 engine?

I want to keep the Vauxhall/Opel theme going with whatever engine goes into the Rekord, but then I heard of an MV8 concept car with a Chevy 5.7 LS1 V8 engine. It never god produced but it got me thinking about dropping in a V8 engine into the Rekord. However perhaps that is much more work than just sticking with the V6.

I am now going to consider buying another Omega once my BMW's are gone as I love the one I have!!

Cheers all you chaps who have given most useful advice to me already, I am truly bowled over that there are such helpful individuals out there.

Best regards all! Cool

Good to see you found your way here mate! Smiley

I would suggest a post in the technical help section about what to do with regards to an engine conversion.
I have thoughts, but best saved the the right area.

Enjoy. Smiley

Ps. Daimler 4.2 Coupe? Still in 1 piece? if so, they are now rather rare (weren't common originally)
Also have some of the biggest doors on a car I have ever seen!  Smiley
