Welcome to the site Smiley

I have a 2.5TD with the BMW engine.  It is available in manual and auto form (the earlier post about auto only is wrong).  Trouble is, Vauxhall decided to use the cheaper, weaker auto box, so they detuned ALL 2.5TD engines to about 120bhp.  If you have a manual, or change the autobox for stronger AR35 box, you can bump the performance back up - speak to our resident TD expert, Omegatoy (of Lotus Carlton engine in an Omega fame).

I, personally, am not a fan of this engine.  I think it was designed by a very stupid 3yr old.  It is capable of huge mileage if looked after, but can fail in style if not.  4.5k is stated service interval, I would be considering 3k oil changes max.

120 bhp ? From a 2.5 TD ? That's shocking.

This is the sorta knowledge I need to be hearing about, what engine would you recomend ? I don't want to be spending the earth on fuel. Is there anywhere with the MPG's for the engines listed ?

Only issue I have with mine is the rocker covers. Mine's one of the first (a 1994 2.5 V6 petrol) though and I think they changed the design in 1995 or 1996.

Only other issue I've heard about if the liquid gasket between the oil and water can sometimes go and be a bit of a bugger to fix. Never had any problems myself though.

Have to say that since driving one everything else feels like a kid's home-made go-cart. Go for it!
