Any airbag light?, steering wheel controls and horn still working ok?

I had a similar experience. It turned out to be the airbag connector ring. This is a complex bakelite assembly and if bits break off it can cause the steering wheel to jam slightly similar to your experience. A local garage replaced mine at resonable charge. I understand VX have lots of spare connector rings in stock, so it must be a regular problem.
