Glow Plugs

Since I drowned the tractor but fortunately did no damage to the con rods or valves by driving into flood water when starting from cold, for the first few seconds it misfires, then revs normally once the throttle is applied.
From then onwards & when warm it runs as well as it ever did - yes although it's a diesel it is a lot more responsive than the 2.0 petrol version that I hastily bought when the insurance company were going to write it off.
Might the drowning have affected a couple of the glowplugs & that is causing their cylinders to miss or could there be another cause?

Yes i would say it could be the glow plugs. Have them tested, or if cheap enough replace the set. IMHO.

Test glow plugs with meter - should be just under 1ohm.

Must be honest, thought the 2.2DTi detected glow plug failure?  Maybe its the 2.0DTi that does  Undecided

Good advice.....but duff glow plugs usually only effect the starting.....and normally only in winter conditions....

Not sure on this one......maybe you've got water in the fuel  Undecided

Ah but.... Drives:'96 TD GLS Estate Auto  Thumbs Up!

I'd take it on a mission somewhere - day out. It might just want a good run?
How deep under water did it go? Like TD said, maybe its water in the diesel?

It went deep enough to suck water into the engine, but was runing at low speed so we assume that the auto transmission absorbed the shock of the engine stopping suddenly
After the water was blown out of the motor through removal of the injectors, it had an oil change, but I'm not sure about the fuel filter
Would it have been possible for water to get back into the fuel system from the engine?
It only misses for a couple of seconds when first starting from cold, after that it runs perfectly which made me think that it could be related to glowplugs & no ignition in a couple of cylinders
It has been on several 'runs' but that has made no difference to the cold starting

Bit late - but have you checked the glowplug connection box located down on the lhs of the block - could it have been low enough to have got a good soaking? I can't see why glowplugs would have been affected by water ingested into the engine - if it really is a glowplug issue then I'd suspect something external.
Good luck & let us know how you get on

Meant to update on situation
I put Redex Advanced Diesel Fuel System treatment into fuel & Wynns Hydraulic Valve lifter treatment into oil & took it for a very long Motoway drive
The result appears to be a remedy, which of the 2 or both were responsible we shall never know but I'm satisfied!

At the turn of a key!
So I guess the problem was either actually injector related as a result of the water ingress or sticky valves for the same reason (rust)
