Spark plug access: Ecotec 2.2L
24. Sep 2007 at 14:23

Hello every one-a truly basic question here:

How I I get access to the spark plugs on the 2.2 ecotec engine?

The haynes manual shows a the black cover plate held down by recessed bolts but mine has the plate without such bolts and has elecyrical fittings each end. I don't want to force the plate up or scratch the cam cover box, so how do you do it??

regards

what year and model are we talking about, im thinking the haynes may be showing a 2.0 and your 2.2 may be new enough to have no ignition leads and therefore be fbw...

size=12][/size]There is a plastic cover on the top of the cam cover, unplug the wiring plug on the coil pack at the bulk head end, then you push the plastic cover towards the rear of the car. You may just have to ease the ends up at the same time and lift it up and off. When this is off the coil pack is there held down by two Torque  bolts undo these,  ease the pack upwards and off . Bingo the spark plugs are there inside  deep recesses, if any are filled with oil this is normally the cam cover gasket gone. If so buy a genuine Vauxhall gasket and O rings and you may as well change it while you are examining your plugs . Cheers bash
