The only thing it's useful for the cassette/aux input tapes for the in-car DVD's, Ipods etc.
It would be nice to have it working though I guess, so it may be worth taking out and having a look. The unit is actually split into two pieces behing the fascia I believe so shouldn't be to tricky to fathom. I also wouldn't mind betting it's a similar mechanism to the CAR300 head unit etc. EVERYBODY has got one of those at home, usually propping a door open

If you're feeling brave and the problem still remains, it might be worth having a tinker. Replacement units are silly money also so hopefully it won't be a big problem.
It's usually the CD changer that fails first though!
