Cam belt change and idling
24. Sep 2007 at 14:40

Ive used the car over the weeekend since the cam belt change at a main dealer (car is a 53 plate, low mileage) and it IS noticeably noisier at idle than before the change.

is this normal after a can belt change or symptomatic of the tensioner not being adjusted properly, or worse?

also there seems to be a high pitched whine almost like the alternator is interfereing with the radio.

views greafully appreciated!

thanks

Sounds like they have over tensioned it. I'd take it back ASAP.

Thumbs Up!

If anything the car should be smoother after a cambelt change. Everything will be tensioned and timed up perfectly.

Did they change the auxiliary belt too? They may have fitted too short a replacement.

Make sure they have aligned the camshafts up properly if the idling is "lumpy" it sounds like it could be a tooth out
