When torquing to 30nm I have often had them snap... hence I only ever fit brand new ones as a matter of course...

Second question... would you fit a genuinely known good but used oil cooler, or would you splash out on a brand new one?

The failure mode as I understand it is that poorly maintained vehicles lose the corrosion protection of the coolant due to insufficient coolant changes and the cooler dies so if the cooler is from a known, well maintained car and doesn't show signs of corrosion it doesn't sound unreasonable to re-use it.

Depends on the balance of the cost of the part against the time required to change it.  Undecided

I can change them in a couple of hours... I think I'll fit the used one...seeing as I have it... and spend the £100 on a cambelt kit instead.

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Remove it from the plate sooner rather than later, its not unusual for the rear cooler thread to strip when the nut is removed rendering the cooler useless (had this happen twice now!)
