Introduce myself!
26. Sep 2007 at 23:24

Hi there, I've just recently bought an Omega but I've been a Vauxhall and Opel driver from, well, a long time ago!

I started with Vivas, Vx4/90s, Firenzas, Magnums (the car not the yummy lolly!) and in 1990 bought my first Opel Monza. I stayed with that for eight years, and with trying to be all grown up sold it and bought a 24v Senator. I was never really happy with this car, although it went like stink, it wasn't as well made as a Monza! Six months after buying it, I sold it and went back to Monza's Smiley

This car was the one I spent an awfull lot of money on and some of you may have seen it at Billing, it's the BMW Estoril Blue one with the grey leather interior. I had another Monza which was my daily driver (well, once in a blue moon!) and this is what I got rid of recently for the Omega. It was always a sows ear really but again went like stink.

My Omega is a '95 Polar Sea Blue (I think, colour code 292?) 3.0 Manual Estate Elite which I bought for the princely sum of £500 with a full years Tax and Ticket Shocked It is in really quite good condition for it's age, there are a couple of small scuffs (front bumper lower) and that's it. No car park dings, no rust, nothing! I was really quite surprised. The previous owners were emigrating so they just wanted shot of it.

To date, I've put a new exhaust on it (minus the cats!), a huge battery, another o/s/r rear light cluster, another o/s/r rear reflector, fixed the glove box catch, fixed the sunroof (re-programmed it!), fixed the radio (a blown fuse on the back of the unit), polished the headlights (usual yellowed lens polished with wet and dry and cutting compound), changed the hazard warning switch to get the indicators working properly and one or two silly little things (door strap bushes!)

Everything works, even the air-cons ice cold. We took it down to Folkestone at the weekend and it went like a dream, a very nice drive. The dot matrix display needs changing/fiddling, I've got another handbrake cable 'cos one side is jammed (works quite well on one side but it's got to be done), got a pair of wish bones to change as the steering's a bit wibbly wobbly at speed and it seems to be the thing to do. I'm going to give it a thorough service as I haven't got much in the way of history and I'm going to get the dreaded cam belt and tensioner changed asap just in case. (What's wrong with a nice cam chain like the indestructable Monza engine Smiley ) There's one or two bits that I'd like to get for it and I'll post a thread in the wanted section if I may.

That's about it for an introduction. Bear with me if I start asking the obvious questions but I'm new to these cars although I've always been a secret admirer Thumbs Up!

Humpy

PS I've always driven manuals apart fom the Senator. My manual Monza's always amazed auto owners with their fuel economy but when you need some get up and go they've got it!
