High level brake light
28. Sep 2007 at 07:29

Returning home last night, I passed a parked up police car, nothing wrong with that, you see them most days.
Further along my way, I noticed in my mirror, this car rapidly getting closer, did'nt think much of it, untill they flashed the blue whirlies.
I pulled over and got out of the car, (I knew I was'nt speeding, co's thats naughty  Roll Eyes)
They asked if I knew my high level brake light was'nt working, I said no I did'nt know, (me now thinking, is it law that because it's fitted it must work ?). So basically, they pulled me over to let me know, I said I'd get it sorted, and let me on my way.

Now, because it's a row of led's, surely they can't have all blown, I've looked in the fuse layout in the hand book to see if it's a seperate fuse  Undecided  anyone know the first place to look/check before the car gets stripped down  Shocked ?

Regards.... Carper  Wink

As an aside, can a high level lamp be retro-fitted to an earlier model like mine?

Don't see any reason why not. Bear in mind though that the shaded area of the screens are different around the light.

On my saloon, it looks possible as inner trim is the same but as said, I noticed the dark area on the glass is different so didn't pursue it further.

In the end I went for a cheap aftermarket one which glues to the top of the windscreen - and occasionally comes loose. You'll need to feed the wires down to the main brake wiring and splice it in. Works for me although admittedly not so neat.

I know yours is an estate but I fitted one to my last saloon and that did not have the space i the black shading . And the light was visible throught it. It went through the MOT with no problems . I did try to remove some of the black shading but had no luck doing this
