Climate control reset - facelift
29. Sep 2007 at 13:01

Hi Guys, ok separate post for this item.

My climate control seems to have lost its reference, and runs flat out regardless of which setting I put it on. Depending on the actual setting, it switches from trying to freeze me - to trying to cook me.

It's happened twice now, and I'm pretty sure its related to pulling out the instument/info display with the ignition and ECC on. My guess is that the ECC takes its reference from the temp sensor in the info display (a bit like an airbag reset).

The first time, it was reset when I had the aircon re-gassed at kwikies. Of course I didn't quite twig until the next time I did some work on the instrumentation with the ignition on, and the ECC went bezerk again. Easy I thought, I'll just disconnect the battery and all will be fine.

Unfortunately, the ECC came back up as it was, and even retained the settings it had prior to disconnecting the battery as though it has an internal battery, or stores its settings in non-volatile memory (I think it might be alive Smiley).

I've tried the standard actuator reset (pressing off+auto for a few seconds), and that works, I can hear the doors moving, but it doesn't cure the problem.

Any suggestions?

Yes, the sensor seems to work very well.

I think I've finally got it. I hadn't given it the auto+off button treatment since disconnecting the battery. It seems to be working ok now.

Funny that, it seems to have needed the power reset to clear its memory, but still needed a further reset to get the temp right.

I'll know soon enough, because I've just pulled the instruments to work on them again. I'll let you know.

Thanks everyone.

Just confirmed it. This time I removed the instruments (and info display) without turning on the ignition, and upon re-installing them, the ECC "went bezerk" again.

Once again, just using the Auto+Off reset didn't work, and I had to remove power first, then use the Auto+Off reset to completely reset the ECC.

Now, I think I've just worked out which fuse is the ECC one from Marks diag in the Tech Info section.
