Expensive MOT time!!!!
06. Nov 2007 at 00:08

Hi Chaps,

Thought I'd combine a general 'Hello!' with a tale of my upcoming MOT! It's not a tale of woe, because I love my Omega....

I thought I'd get my '97 R Omega 3.0V6 Elite Estate (99,000miles) ready for it's MOT next week. Little did I know what awaited me!!! Wink

1) Four new Falken tyres (from Event mobile tyres, very good service...) £294. I could have gone budget, but as far as I'm concerned you cant skimp on tyres. I'd always gone for £30 part-worn before........BUT.......
2) Both wishbones are mullered, £117 from Motorfactors. Didn't know until I went to Supertyres in Malden (great guys...) and couldn't believe what they showed me on the ramp........wheels wobbling all over the place! And here's me thinking it was the part-worns and dodgy alignment that were making the 'mega drift all over the road! Even with the knackered wishbones the handling is great with the Falkens.................just shows you how good even cheap new tyres can be....
3) £208 - New central sections and backbox from motorfactors....
4) £45 for the new MOT
5) About £250 to fit 2 and 3 above.....
6) £65 for wheel alignment and balancing after MOT, IF it passes!!!

I could have PX'd the car (was looking at Lexus Ls400's), but I love the Omega so much I reckon it's worth splashing out on, for a few more years reliable motoring, I plan on driving through Europe next summer, and hopefully the Omega will do the job. Once these jobs are done I hope the car will be tip-top.

The car is all standard but is SUCH good fun. Some of you may recognise my name from Pistonheads, where I post on the Elise forum ( I have a S1 Sport 160 in the garage....), but as I've said on there...............

.........I took my Omega to North Weald airfield on an Andrew Walsh carlimits day (I have a picture on my Pistonheads profile of the car lining up with Elises and Imprezas!), and I EASILY beat many of the Elises around the large circuit (no I'm not joking!!!!  Thumbs Up!) Awesome car, love the thing !!!!!

Will keep you all updated!

Eamonn.

Welcome to the site Smiley

If I may suggest you look at getting a Tradeclub card - standard genuine Vauxhall consumables at cheap prices. eg, the exhaust, you may have got near the price you paid for the much better genuine part Wink

Also, many members here get the wishbones from Ebay for around £20 each.

We know a few ways of keeping Omega maintenence much more affordable Thumbs Up!
