Newbie wants an MV6!
16. Dec 2007 at 23:42

Hi all , joined as i'm looking to buy an MV6 , found two , both '98 model , one estate with 79,000 miles and one saloon with 18,000 miles(and i've seen the history).... I need to know a bit more about these cars , like cambelt changes etc.. The Saloon is lovely but at around 10 yrs old , will/should it need a cambelt change? The estate at 79k is almost due for one from what I have read. It may have been done , but i've not seen the car yet. The Estate is black has full leather etc and is MANUAL! The saloon is Champagne coloured , has cloth seats and is an Auto! What do you reckon ? Looked at other makes of car but ended up at MV6s every time.... Grin Oh and yet another forum joined... Thumbs Up!

both would definately need a cambelt change, 79k one would possibly need water pump too, someone else will confirm, help is best requested in the "general help" section

cambelt intervals are 40,000 OR 4 years, whichever first, so 10 years is screaming for one!

Smiley Hiya Pugtop.

18,000 miles for a ten year old car, worth having.

Cambelt change, don't forget the rollers, and change the water pump at the same time.

I'm to understand from OOF, the rollers go 1st, before the belt?

If you are unsure when this was last done, for peace of mind, change it.

It'll be cheaper in the long run.

Will look at the 79k estate tomoz and see what has been done in the way of servicing ... Nice looking car .... The other one is having some minor blemishes sorted tomoz (scrape on front bumper) and is still hot on my list. Any ideas how much I should budget for a cambelt /water pump change , so I can use it as leverage on a bit of discount  Thumbs Up!
