Hello There
28. Dec 2007 at 14:59

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all had a good xmas.

Mine was okay except I've snapped the cambelt on my Omega V6,  Sad what I'd like to know is whether the valves hitting the pistons on these engines is a guaranteed certanty or whether it's just a possibility. If it's only a possible then I'll have it looked at.

Anyone know of any independents in the West Wales / Carmarthenshire area who can do the belt / tensioners or is it best to take it to a main agent ? My local garage who does all my other servicing declined to do the belt because of the need for the specialist locking tool kit.

Sorry about all the questions in a newbie post.

Kind regards,

Steveo.

Hi Steveo and welcome to the forum Thumbs Up!

I would say if the belt has snapped then it will be replacement heads but if the belt has only jumped a couple of teeth then you could be lucky.

Welcome to the forum steveo, sorry to hear about the cam belt. Very few get away whithout damage to the heads and valves but you will need a compression test to know more, best of luck to you. Thumbs Up!

Thanks for all the encouragement and the tips. I'm still trying to find a garage that's brave enough to take it on. Guess it may have to be the main agent. There's not many V6 vauxhalls round here as far as I can tell and none of the local garages seem to have the alignment kit and are reluctant to buy it if they only ever use it on my car.

As for your questions well I as far as I can gather from the previous owner the belts were changed within the last couple of years, but I have that sort of feeling the it was just the belts not the tensioners as well, and as I'd originally only bought the car as a stop gap I didn't think anymore of it.

Anyone got any ideas on how much I'd be looking at to spend on new heads if the valves are bent ? Or would a complete replacement engine from a breakers (if i can find one) be a better bet ?

Regards,

Steveo
