Hi all!  Thumbs Up!
I`ve been forum lurker for long enough; as a keen 'amateur' I`ve benefited greatly from 'problem-fix' posts and 'how-to`s' and `thought it`s about time I registered and join-in.
I`m on my second Omega estate; started off with a 2.0 C.D and graduated to a 2.5 CDX auto...
Being very tall, I love the generous size of Omegas and as I have three large border collies dogs I really value the huge cargo area and 'rain shadow' created by the tailgate......especially valuable seeing as I do much of my driving in rainy North Wales!
I have only one gripe with the 2.5: it`s ground clearance is rather poor and on my badly rutted (farm-field) driveway, the undercarriage can be heard scraping on the centre of driveway-ridge....I have fitted slightly higher profile Vredstein M&S tyres all`round, which has helped a little bit, but I still drive dead-slow on the driveway lest I leave a trail of vital exhaust/driveline 'bits'.
I do considerable motorway-mileage P/A and so a cruise control upgrade/mod. is on the cards as soon as I can locate a stalk and actuator at the right price.
Well, that`s a bit about me....`pleased to be here.
Kind regards,
Debs.  Smiley

"Hello" and welcome Smiley

I often travel down some farm lanes such as you describe, and also fear for various "dangly" bits .. Smiley

I have found that moving slightly to one side, when able, can put one set of wheels on or around the higher central ground, thus increasing the clearance on the expensive bits !!  Smiley

Welcome Debs Smiley

Consider getting brand new stalk, as older ones can become problematic (tends to flick on full beam unexpectedly)

Thanks to everbody for the warm forum-welcome.

I`m enjoying reading through all the posts; getting familiar with Omega-topics old & new.....(as a former-lurker) I`ve previously used info from the O.O.F to remediate various faults:
Replaced an 'exploded' DIS pack (2.5L V6) - what a truly-horrid place to put that!
Cleaned out a sticky IAC valve/gummed-breather (2L 16V.)
Located and disconnected a faulty power sounder; before my neighbours killed me!
`Done lots of (routine) oil and filter changes....and (more than a few times) replaced Cam & Crank reluctors - they must be of rather poor quality or perhaps `are just a bit fragile.

It`s a great sense of satisfaction doing repairs myself; `but it often takes me a while to complete them; as I`m rather a 'pernickety' Debs.  Grin

You must be mindreaders; actually my stalk is starting to get 'loose' and will jump from 'dip to high' when using a trafficator...that`s the reason I thought I`d kill two birds with one stone and use the column-trim disassembly job as an excuse to fit cruise as well.  Wink

I`ve read through back-posts on O.O.F and `now know how to disassemble the column shrouds and fit a new stalk and a cruise actuator....so, soon I`ll be checking out what`s on offer on Ebay.  Thumbs Up!

Hello & Welcome  Thumbs Up!

Probably not far from you, I'm in Flintshire

Have just done Cruise as well, bargain price of 99p!  so the bargains are out there.  I did have to source a stalk though, got one of the new ebay £20 odd quid ones, wish I hadn't it doesnt lock properly when turning right.

I would use either a very cheap 2nd hand, or get a real one from the dealer.

Thanks for info. and the welcome VXL V6; I think he sold it today on eBay....actually, I was watching the bidding (hoping to bid) but it went 'too rich' for me: but, well done JamesV6CDX you did well!  Thumbs Up!

Hi Debs

Worth keeping an eye on the parts section on this forum as lots of people breaking Omegas, trouble with eBay is it's either 'silly cheap' or vastly over priced.... I always miss the 'silly cheap' items!

Cheers
