What is involved in "upgrading" a single point to a multi point system? Is it feasible? Is it worth it ??

apart from the tank, all new kit.

There is a kit here people have used £450 off eBay, SGI, with injectors, ECU, ect...

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Depends how well the current kit works, really. Mixer systems aren't ideal on the V6. Does it run OK on gas? Any problems with backfires? Is the consumption OK?

SGI is a no-brainer for a new install, but if you're already reaping the benefits of LPG it makes it more questionable if the expense would bring a worthwhile benefit.

Haven't clocked up many miles --- complicated story -- son in law is rebuilding the beasty and it's sat on my drive waiting for me to decide to buy it or not  Roll Eyes

Apart from very slight tapping runs well on petrol and gas -- haven't a clue on consumption.

Had a backfire a couple of days ago --- decided not to run on gas for a while then went back to normal and running OK again.

System is Romano and that's about all I know  Undecided

Have heard some worrying tales of single point system backfires !

Do you have the software and leads?  If it is backfiring and not idling correctly it is most likely that it could do with a tune up.  If you have the software it could be an easy fix.

Many thanks for the advice and ideas so far... much appreciated.
No software or leads available set up came with car, not even sure of what it is yet, apart from Romano single point. -- apparently there is a LPG God a little up the motorway -- might go for a consult -- get this one tweaked until I can afford to upgrade

I think you should take it to the LPG man.  He should be able to hook it up to a laptop and check the mixture and sort out the running.  Give it a good few weeks of running to work out your mpg before deciding if an upgrade is absolutely necessary.  Unfortunately you can't save a lot of equipment from a single point system so you will practically be buying a whole new multipoint installation.

The single point system works great on mine but it's a 2 litre.  I don't think they work nearly as well with six cylinders, you may find you lose a lot of power.  I would imagine you'll still save a good bit of money using the single point system though.

Thanks Rickyboy -- I think that's the way I will go --- get it tweaked and run it for a while to see how it behaves. Thing is -- with the proposed tax hikes, this car will be the youngest I am going to get -- so I want to treat it well and keep it going -- saves a couple of hundred a year on tax as well as the savings on LPG !

If you want to keep it it may be worth swapping th ekit for SGI

As for your current problem - take a trip to Newport - phone first - Autogas Worldwide are based there and they are the Romano importers

Hi Just a thought, although I run a 2.0 on a single point / mixer I had to uncover several problems.  Such as ICV, Replaced to make sure, Vacuum leak on the inlet manifold gasket (probably made worse by a backfire) and Cam sensor. All replaced and runs like a dream.

There's an lpg parts store on ebay who have all manor of anti backfire devices.      Contradiction really as these devices just minimise damage. Backfires do happen but with the ABD fitted it just blows out with no adverse effects in the inlet tract.  I used a porche airbox saver, simple to fit and cheap too.  I've also heard that the sgi systems are less economical as there is no loss of performance.

I hope this helps

If you're keeping the car it might be worth investing in an SGI front end to avoid a repeat of the backfire. Tank and plumbing could stay, so it wouldn't be a huge job.
