Rear Track Arms

Reading Big Al's topic in General Chat about his visit to WIM, he was advised by Tony to spray the rear track arms with WD40 or similar.

I'm due to visit WIM on 21 May and I thought I better get busy with the WD40, but I have to admit I'm not sure where to spray it.

Does anyone have a photo of where to spray, or could they better describe what I'm looking for, and would it be easier to do with the wheel off?

it is the bar that runs from the bottom of the rear shocks to the diff area with two nuts nearer the shocks this is where you need to spray the wd40 as this is where it will be adjusted but to be honest the best way to free them is to remove them from the car and put them in the vice as they will be very tight ( by the way it is the middle 2 nuts not the main shock bolts ) Grin

May 2008 at 12:34 It will be the rear tie rod which has the adjuster on it (similar to the ones at the front). And I suggest using Plusgas - its intended for this, whereas WD40 is not (its a water dispersant, rather than a penetrating agent or a lubricant). Yes I was sceptical too until I tried it - magic stuff.

May 2008 at 15:32 Hi, I had been spraying Plus Gas on mine prior to visit to Fleet fit, but it still needed Rustoff Freeze crack release agent before they would move. Roger

Pictures received in all their glory. Thanks a million. Will get outside now before it gets too dark and start off with the WD40.

The hunt for Plusgas continues. My local branch of Camberley Auto Factors doesn't stock it but they're recommended a building trade supply store locally that I will try tomorrow.

Sure I've bought from halfords in the past but last time I wanted some they didn't seem to have any. Engineers merchants stock it though, maybe worth looking up your local engineers merchants.

The local building trade supply store had some Plusgas so I'm now the proud owner of a 200ml aerosol can. Just a shame I will invariably get wet later when I get spraying.

May 2008 at 13:39 Recommendation I had from a friend 'in the trade' was motorcycle spray chain lube. Had the penetration of WD40 but was a high spec grease with anti-fling to keep it in place. Never without a can now.
