Hi all, I've tried fixing this one myself but without success...

1.  Boot door is shifted to the right (offside) leaving about half inch gap on the left (nearside)
2.  Door rattles when going over bumps
3.  I've checked it and it would seem that the best fix would be to move the catch situated within the car back a bit
4.  I've tried this, but it doesn't go back far enough!
5.  I've tried putting electrical tape on the catch to thicken the area the door catches on to, but as expected, it just gets eaten away after a few times of opening and closing the door.  Hence, it's rattling again.

Question No. 1 - How easy is it to shift the door back to the left and what do I need to do it, i.e. any replacement parts & tools?

Question No. 2 - Would it be advisable to make the screw holes slightly larger in order for the catch to move further back?

Question No. 3 - Are No. 1 & No. 2 easy enough for a novice and DIY idiot, i.e. ME?

The 1/2" gap is only on the nearside and the door is flush with both quarter panels.  I haven't tried taking the boot floor catch off and shutting it yet, but will try tomorrow.  I do know that the door itself doesn't have any play in it from side to side.  The only play in it is when it is shut where you can push and pull it.

I've taken the floor catch off and noted the shutting position...it still leaves the same gap.  I've then put the catch on the left most position in order to pull it back to the left when it closes.  You can hardly tell it moves the door back to the left.  It still has the same gap.  The gap is wide enough so that I can fit from the tip of my finger to the first knuckle of my middle finger where the top of tail light unit meets the boot. I can't even get the tips of my pinky finger to go into the offside gap.  I've not driven the car yet to see if it has helped or not, but will post back when I do.

..I bet you wish you never started!  I've just been out to the car this morning with the boot door open and stared at it...and...

...there are a couple of round rubber mountings on the door itself that when closed go into a couple of grooves on the body itself.  One seemed slightly rustier than the other.  I've turned the n/s one counter clockwise a few times so that it protrudes a bit more than it did.  IT NOW CLOSES WITHOUT ANY RATTLE!!!!!!

I've just got to adjust the catch a little so that it closes nicely as it's catching a bit as it shuts, but my wife had to dash off.  It's odd though how yours has got the same gap too.  You'd think they'd be designed to have equal gaps all over?  Many thanks for your tips...I think this one's sorted!  FT.

FT, ive had a go at mine today, have shifted hinges over by loosening them off [torx bolts under plastic headlining trim] then adjusted catch to suit, also moved n/s light unit by loosening & shoving over & everything looks like it should now, perhaps they had stevie wonder & ray charles working on the production line when ours were thrown together .
