Ideas please chaps and chapesses!

I am looking at a wee fixer-upper, and the car has a gearbox fault.

The seller states; "when the fault does show, the hydraulic light comes on, at this point it loses sport mode and over drive, as the car goes into safe mode, at this point the car drives like a old man, very slow to respond, I found switching off and resting for 5 mins she starts up and away, the car went though a lot of water it may be water damage I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A GARAGE it may be the switch but no defs;."

I am a little worried if this is a replacement gearbox job, or if it is summit fairly straightforward to take care of.

It is a 2.5 auto, so I presume AR25?

Is this a typical fault?

I fancy a winter smoker and apart from the jag I am looking at on ebay, this seems rather good.

Ideas anyone?

Could just be the selector switch. I've had similar symptoms on mine and a replacement selector switch sorted it. Do all the selector lights light up at the same time?

You might be better to put this problem in the General Help section for better response.  Wink

Looks like it's been moved for you...

If you've been through water, selector switch is a likely culprit. Do all the selector lights sometimes all come on at once when in gear?

Is a selector switch replacement an easy fix?

easy fix, 2x 10mm bolts, a 15mm nut & a plug, then take switch apart & give it a clean out with some switch cleaner Thumbs Up! or of course replace but try a clean first Thumbs Up!

Do not use WD40!
Go to Maplins & get an aerosol can of switch cleaner
